Welcome to the England Athletics endurance newsletter. With the track season in full flow now most of us will be very busy with competitions, events and even coaching! Since recently starting I have been travelling more than ever and trying to meet as many people in the endurance community as possible. It is impossible to meet everyone though so please feel free to come over anytime you see me at various events and say hello, catch up or just to voice your opinion!

The selection criteria for the 2015 European U23 and the European Junior championships can be found on the British Athletics website:-

The European U23 Championships Trials (“the Trials”) for all events except 10,000m and combined events, will take place on 20-21 June 2015 in Bedford.

The European Junior Championships Trials (“the Trials”) for all events except 5,000m (women), 10,000m and combined events, will take place on 20-21 June 2015 in Bedford.

Please read the selection policies thoroughly to understand the criteria BEFORE THE EVENT.

World Half Marathon Championships reminder- March 2016

The world’s elite distance runners will be converging on Cardiff on Easter Saturday, 26th March 2016, to take part in the 22nd edition of the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships England Athletics registered athletes have access to a number of discounted spaces for the mass participation race at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, Cardiff 2016.

UK CAU & England Athletics Senior AAA Championships

England Athletics, the UK CAU and the AAA are delighted to announce a new Senior Championships event to be held this year which combines the England, UK CAU and AAA championships.

The event will be held at Bedford International Athletic Stadium, Barkers Lane, Bedford, on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August 2015. It is being supported by the AAA who are making their trophies available for presentation at the event.=

Open to all from u15's through to Veterans, from fairly new sub 10min mile to those hope to get a British Milers Club time.

Manchester Harriers & A.C. are bringing back The Manchester Mile which was originally run in 1943 until the early 1950's when Frank Evans won it 3 years on the row and gained the trophy outright.

England internationals – development opportunities

The Team for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon has been announced.

Following their performances in the England Marathon Championships in London in April, England Athletics have named a six strong team for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on 18th October.

Rule Changes Consultation:-

British Athletics have a link for the latest rule change submissions and new age group proposals The consultation period for rule change proposals for the 2016 rule book is now open.

The proposed changes would include age groups, with proposals seeing us come in line with IAAF rules. Timelines for the consultations can be found below, along with the changes themselves and a number of FAQ's.

Please submit all proposals on rule changes to rules@uka.org.uk by Monday 27th July 2015 using the template below.

Barry Fudge: priming for Performance Part 2 (14.06.15)

Detail: Dr Barry Fudge completed his undergraduate degree and his PhD in Physiology from the University of Glasgow, UK. His PhD focused on the environmental factors leading to the success of elite east African runners. During that time he worked with a number of runners in Kenya and Ethiopia, some of whom are World record holders and/or World and Olympic medallists. Following that Barry was a Senior Physiologist at the English Institute of Sport for 5 years providing physiological support to British Athletics.

Detail:Ann first started out in education, being a PE teacher in Scotland for 5 years. Her completion of an MSc in Sport Psychology has led her to lecture part-time in Sport Psychology since 2001 as well as applying it to athletes in the field.
