UKA Coach Building A Better Coaching Environment

Scott Simpson - “Should I stay, or should I go…?”

Scott has recently been appointed to a new role working for British Athletics as the NPI (National Performance Institute) Senior Coach for Pole Vault.  The 3 main focuses attached to this role are (in order):

Provide full-time, dedicated technical coaching to individual pole vault athletes on the WCP (World Class Programme)
Actively contribute to the management and development of pole vault athletes and coaches throughout the pathway (in the UK)
Provide challenge, leadership and direction in the management and development of other Field and Combined Event athletes on the WCP

As part of the second of those three priority areas, “the pathway” is something that Scott is keen to clarify for pole vault in the UK moving forwards, but will naturally include three main strands:

Athlete development
Coach development

As part of the process of supporting the development of both athletes and coaches in the UK, Scott has written the following blog piece that may of use to those who undertaking their end-of-season review process.
