In this section you can find resources that support the Athletics Coach award coaching qualification.
Please note that coaches wishing to coach Triple Jump, Pole Vault, Discus, Hammer or Wheelchair Racing should take the Athletics Coach Add-On Modules 

From January 1st 2016, the assessment of the Athletics Coach course will include an online knowledge test (including health and safety) and a practical assessment. The Athletics Coach 2016 Online Knowledge Test can be accessed and completed at any point in time but must be completed to pass the qualification. The practical assessment is slightly longer and will require candidates to bring along a Mesocycle plan, in addition to their session plan. The plan will be discussed as part of an extended review at the Observed Practical Assessment (OPA) day.

Homework Pack

During your coaching sessions you may be supported by a Coaching Assistant who may use either task cards or session plans. During the courses candidates are exposed to samples of these task cards which are also available to freely download on this site under the relevant course section. A variety of cards maybe used such as Elevating Athletics or Athletics 365.

Assessment for Coaches Commencing after 1st January 2016

From January 1st 2016, the assessment of the Athletics Coach course will include an online knowledge test (including health and safety) and a practical assessment. The existing Athletics Coach Assessment Guidance for Candidates has been unaltered, candidates are asked to disregard the sections covering the coaching diary and PebblePad as these are no longer used as assessment mechanisms. The document will still however provide you with useful information regarding the online knowledge test and the observed practical assessment.

 

Assessment for Coaches Commencing prior to 1st January 2016

There are three assessment mechanisms for the Athletics Coach Award.

  1. Coaching Diary via PebblePad
  2. Online Technical Knowledge Test via uCoach
  3. Observed Practical Assessment

1. Coaching Diary

Coaches commencing the AC course from September 2014 will complete the Coaching Diary online via PebblePad. The diary is split into three workbooks for you to complete and submit online as you progress through the qualification. Attached are several video guides to get you started.

Coach Course Prior to September 2014

There were some significant changes made to the Athletics Coach course in 2014, all information relating to the course on this page is for the current version commencing September 2014. If you commenced and Athletics Coach course prior to this date you can access these resources via your Home Country Coach Education contact.

Please note Coaches that have commenced the AC programme prior to September 2014 will need to complete the old-style Coaching Diary. This is available in PDF or word version and can be accessed via your Home Country Coach Education contact.
