What will I be able to do?

The course is designed to prepare you to provide a safe and enjoyable running experience for young people over 12 years of age and adults of any ability, size or shape. You may lead a group for your club and register with the Run England to deliver to new runners. Your qualification will provide you with insurance to lead a group within the limits of the course content. Leadership in Running Fitness will be accepted as a prerequisite course for the Coach in Running Fitness qualification.

How does this fit in a club?

The Leadership in Running Fitness award licenses and insures an individual to lead groups of adults in run activities without supervision and away from the club premises. The Leader must be under the advice of a coach if working with 12 to 18 year old runners to ensure sessions appropriately meet the needs of this age group.(Other conditions also apply which are detailed in the Leadership and Running Fitness resource pack provided on course)

Anyone wishing to attend a Leadership in Running Fitness Award will need to complete an application form and sign up to the terms and conditions of being a leader. Forms should be submitted to the education team in the relevant Home Country.  All applications must be accompanied by a photograph which will appear on the Leaders license.

In addition to the application to be licensed, Leaders also need to complete a UKA CRB or Disclosure check. A Leaders license cannot be issued without a CRB. CRB checks are not transferable between sports and other organisations therefore UKA must have a new check made. The CRB itself is free for club volunteers.  For details on how to arrange a CRB check follow this link.

Once individuals have paid for and attended a Leaders course, they will be issued with a personal log in to access the  Leadership in Running Fitness section of this site which will include resources to view, download and print relating to the course and the leadership role. Prior to attending the course it is strongly recommend that individuals familiarise themselves with the cards used on the course.
