Sprinting Mechanics: Able Bodied, Single & Double Amputee

Dr Wolfgang Potthast for Cologne Sporthochschule presents on the differences between able bodied athletes and those with both single and double amputations. Significant detail is included on the testing carried out on Oscar Pistorius and the comparison of this data with equivalent able-bodied athletes. The session is completed with a question and answer session.

Dr Wolfgang Potthast is a lecturer and researcher in biomechanics where he has become a world expert on the implications of prosthesis use in sport and was one of the lead researchers in the work carried out establishing the ability of Oscar Pistorius to run in able-bodied races. He graduated in Physics at the Sport Science University of Cologne, he then continued on to PhD studies until 2005 when took up a position within the institute of Biomechnics and Orthopedics. Since 2010 he has worked in the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, where he holds the professorship for biomechanics and movement science.
