Prof. Brueggemann on Adaptation of Tendons to Training Loads

Prof. Gert Peter Brueggemann presents the latest research on tendon adaptation to loading and the effect this can have on our training at the European Jumps Conference in Cologne, 2012.

Dr. Brüggemann is a Professor of Biomechanics and directs the Institute of Biomechanics and Orthopaedics of the German Sport University, Cologne, Germany. His original training was in mathematics and human movement sciences. After his university studies in Münster and Frankfurt/Main, he obtained a doctoral degree at the University of Frankfurt/Main in Biomechanics.

The research focus was and is on the mechanical loading of biological tissue in sport and exercise as well as in daily life and occupational activities. The last years the major scientific impact contributed to an increased understanding of the biological tissue response to mechanical stimuli. Bone, cartilage and the muscle tendon unit have been the major pieces of research. He also maintains interest on the influence of technical devices to the tissue loading in sport, exercise and daily life activities. Therefore footwear biomechanics, biomechanics of braces, orthoses and prostheses played and still play an important role in his scientific work.He has contributed to over 150 papers in German, English, Japanese and Chinese focused on sport and occupational biomechanics and clinical biomechanics.
